Standards of conduct, rules and business etiquette are present in every profession.

For a translator, business ethics is also a relationship with a client, and with other participants in the event, and colleagues in the profession, the same translators. Ethics is aimed at creating a positive reputation of the translator and is based on three basic principles: correctness, commitment, confidentiality. Translation services are important in international meetings, as well as in commercial negotiations and business meetings.

The translator and the obligatory participant, and a kind of invisibility, that is, he should not be in sight. He is a negotiation tool, thanks to which business meetings are much more effective. The translator, being an intermediary, should not express his personal opinion. The main thing is to convey the meaning with the appropriate emotional coloring, with the pace of the speaker's voice, his intonations.

The translation uses very simple sentences, there should be no metaphors, proverbs, idioms. Thus, for many statements in English in Russian there are several equivalent translations, and only a professional translator can correctly and quickly select the appropriate phrase

For example, an English proverb and its translation:

A word spoken is past recalling means: You cannot return what was said.

In Russian, it sounds only: The word - not a sparrow, fly out - you will not catch.

There are cases when the translator is forced to ask clarifying questions. Here, the speaker should not express his dissatisfaction, as this can affect the quality of the translation and lead to confusion and dissatisfaction on the other side of the negotiation process. The work of a translator should not be outwardly noticeable, however, the success of economic, cultural negotiations and other contacts in various spheres of life depends on the quality of translation.

A professional experienced translator will create a translation in which all participants in the process will feel that they are speaking the same language. According to etiquette, the translator is to the left of the speaker, if the meeting takes place at the table, he sits behind and slightly away from the person whose speech will be translated. The leader inviting the translator to the negotiations on etiquette should thank him for his help in communicating.
