Proofreading – Language, Stylistic and Pre-print

Your text is already written or translated – and only needs a professional eye so it is error-free and reads naturally? We do language, stylistic and pre-print proofreading of texts in Slovak and in the languages we work with. We fix grammar, spelling and punctuation, refine the style and flow, and prepare the text for publication or print. We work with tracked changes, so you see every edit, and we keep an agreed style and terminology. For companies and individuals; confidential texts under an NDA. Office in Bratislava-Petržalka; fully online across Slovakia.

  • Language, stylistic and pre-print proofreading – whichever the text needs
  • Proofreading of translations and original texts: web, marketing, academic work, print
  • With tracked changes – you see every edit; we keep an agreed style and terminology
  • For companies and individuals; confidential texts handled under an NDA

What proofreading we do

Language (grammar) proofreading fixes spelling, grammar and punctuation – the baseline for any text that goes out. Stylistic proofreading goes further: it improves flow, sentence structure and register so the text reads naturally and consistently. Pre-print proofreading is the final check just before printing or publishing – typography, hyphenation, numbers, captions and the typos that creep in during layout.

Tell us what the text is for and where it will go – we recommend a proofreading scope that makes sense and won’t sell you more than you need.

When proofreading is worth it

Most often we proofread translations done elsewhere, marketing and web copy before launch, academic and thesis work, and corporate documents before printing (catalogues, contracts, annual reports). Whenever a customer, an office or the public reads a text, one mistake is remembered more than ten good sentences.

We proofread foreign-language texts in the languages we regularly work with; if we are not sure we can cover a given language and subject at the required level, we tell you up front.

Proofreading versus translation

Proofreading works on a finished text – it is not the same as translation. If the text still has to be rendered into another language, that is translation; proofreading then polishes it. And we say it straight: a very poor machine or non-professional translation is sometimes not worth proofreading – a fresh translation is faster and cheaper. After seeing the text we advise honestly what is worth doing.

If you need a sworn (úradný) translation, proofreading does not replace it – that is a separate sworn-translation service.

How we work

We proofread with tracked changes, so you see every edit and decide what to accept. For larger or repeat jobs we agree a style and terminology in advance and keep them via a glossary and a translation memory, so your texts stay consistent.

We set the deadline and price by the length and difficulty of the text – send the document and tell us when you need it. Confidential materials are handled under an NDA.

FAQ

What is the difference between language and stylistic proofreading?

Language proofreading fixes spelling, grammar and punctuation. Stylistic goes further – it improves flow, sentence structure and register so the text reads naturally. We often combine them; we advise based on the text’s purpose.

Will you proofread a translation someone else did?

Yes. If the translation is decent, we polish it. If it is very poor (e.g. raw machine output), we tell you honestly that a fresh translation is often faster and cheaper – the decision is yours.

Which languages do you proofread in?

Most often Slovak and the languages we regularly work with. If we are not sure we can cover a given language and specialist subject at the required level, we tell you in advance – we do not promise what we cannot deliver.

Does proofreading replace a sworn translation?

No. A sworn (úradný) translation is a separate service with a sworn translator’s stamp. Proofreading only polishes an existing text – documents for offices need a sworn translation.

Will I see what you changed in the text?

Yes – we proofread with tracked changes, so you see every edit and decide what to accept. You get a tracked-changes version and a clean final version.

How is the price of proofreading calculated?

By length (number of standard pages, 1 page = 1,800 characters including spaces) and the difficulty of the text. Send the document – we prepare an exact quote within hours.
