★★★★★

Confidentiality of your documents

Plenty of work journeys lead from the Prešov region to Germany and Austria, and the paperwork travels with them: an employment contract, an insurance record, a school certificate, a child's birth certificate for enrolment. Etalon has prepared documents of this kind since 2010, through translators on the Slovak Ministry of Justice register.

We have no office in Prešov and nothing here is handled in person. You send scans by email and get the translation by post to an address at home or abroad, or as an electronic sworn translation you forward to the authority from your phone.

The documents we translate most often for Prešov

The bulk of the work for this region covers employment, residence, social security and schooling: mostly into German, and the other way from Ukrainian into Slovak. Sworn or standard, depending on what the office asks for:

  • employment contracts, employer confirmations and payslips for German and Austrian employers;
  • social-security and insurance paperwork – A1, PD U1, supporting papers for child benefit;
  • documents for registering the whole family's residence and enrolling a child in a school or kindergarten abroad;
  • school reports, apprenticeship certificates and diplomas with supplements for recognition of qualifications (Anerkennung);
  • certificates of professional competence and courses – carers, healthcare staff, drivers, skilled trades;
  • criminal-record extracts, proof of residence and fitness certificates for authorities and staffing agencies;
  • Ukrainian documents with an apostille for residence, work and schooling in Slovakia.

What else we arrange

The Prešov region borders Ukraine and the Ukrainian community is at home here, so we run the whole chain of documents from Ukraine for Slovakia from the start: we file the apostille on the Ukrainian original through our own offices in Kharkiv and Kyiv, then attach the sworn translation into Slovak. The original never crosses the border by post and you go nowhere.

We settle the order of the steps at the outset, because it cannot be rearranged later: first the original, then the apostille if the receiving authority asks for one, and only at the end the sworn translation, which is bound to the apostille as well. Translate too early and you pay for the translation twice.

With a Slovak document going to Germany or Austria we first ask which authority will receive it. For the documents Regulation (EU) 2016/1191 covers – birth, marriage and death certificates, a certificate of residence, a criminal-record extract and others – no apostille is required in the EU, and the multilingual standard form the authority issues with the document can remove the need for a translation too. Other documents are outside that: some authorities do want an apostille on the original, and some German offices accept only a translator appointed in Germany. Tell us which office it is.

Once you are abroad, the order can be placed by your family at home or by you over email: the paper translation goes to a German or Austrian address, the electronic one reaches both sides at once. Agencies and companies receive an invoice made out to the business.

Why Etalon when the documents go abroad

A sworn translation by a translator from the MS SR register carries the same weight in Prešov, Poprad and Snina – what counts is the translator's clause, not the town the office sits in. With it you get the order of steps agreed in advance, a single passport-based spelling of names and delivery to wherever you currently are. See also the services for the whole of Slovakia.

FAQ

Is a translation enough for a German authority, or is an apostille needed too?

The authority receiving the document decides, not the translator. If it wants an apostille, the apostille has to be on the original before the translation is made, otherwise the translation does not cover it and has to be redone. Tell us which document goes to which office and we set the order of steps before you order.

Will a German or Austrian authority accept a translation by a Slovak sworn translator?

Employers and staffing agencies in both countries accept one as a matter of course. Authorities differ: some insist on a translator appointed in their own country. Put that single question to the office and send us the answer – we prepare the document accordingly.

Do you have an office in Prešov?

No, we have no office in Prešov or anywhere else in the region. Our offices are in Bratislava, Kharkiv and Kyiv, and the Prešov region is served remotely only: scans by email, the finished translation by post or as an electronic sworn translation. Nobody has to travel.

I am going to work in Germany. Which documents should I have translated?

Usually a birth certificate, a marriage certificate if the family is coming along, a criminal-record extract, a school report or apprenticeship certificate and insurance records. Send us the list you were given and we mark what has to be sworn and what can stay standard.

How does recognition of a qualification (Anerkennung) work?

The authority compares your training with its own reference occupation and needs the diploma or apprenticeship certificate, the supplement listing subjects and hours, and confirmations of practice – in German and usually sworn. We prepare the translations and bind them to the copies; recognition is decided by that authority alone.

I have Ukrainian documents and live in the Prešov region. How does it work?

The document does not have to cross the border. Colleagues in Kharkiv or Kyiv file it for the apostille, we scan it, and a translator from the MS SR register produces the sworn translation into Slovak. The same document can go into German too.
