Apostille in Košice: Document Apostille and Sworn Translation

An apostille certifies a public document for use abroad under the 1961 Hague Convention. In Košice it is issued, depending on the document type, by two local authorities – the Regional Court in Košice at Štúrova 29 (court, notarial and expert documents and official translations) and the Košice District Office at Komenského 52 (civil-registry documents) – while education documents are handled centrally.

Etalon tells you exactly where your document belongs, prepares the filing and provides a sworn translation. Ukrainian documents are our specialty: their apostille is arranged directly in Ukraine through our own Kharkiv and Kyiv offices. We do not have a Košice office yet – ordering and delivery run online across eastern Slovakia.

  • We identify exactly which Košice authority issues the apostille – the Regional Court (Štúrova 29) or the District Office (Komenského 52)
  • Sworn translation of the apostilled document by an MS SR-registered translator – apostille and translation together
  • Ukrainian documents: apostille arranged directly in Ukraine through our Kharkiv and Kyiv offices
  • No Košice office – filing and delivery online across eastern Slovakia

What an apostille is and when you need one in Košice

The apostille replaces lengthy consular legalisation between the states of the 1961 Hague Convention: a single stamp confirms a public document is genuine, making it valid in every member state. You need one when a Slovak document is used abroad – or when a foreign document is submitted to a Košice office, court or university.

The most commonly apostilled documents are birth and marriage certificates, criminal-record extracts, diplomas and school certificates, notarial deeds and court decisions. For countries outside the Convention an apostille is not enough and superlegalisation is required; we check which regime applies to your destination country.

Where to get an apostille in Košice

Košice has no single shared “apostille counter” – depending on its type, a document goes to two different offices in the city. The Regional Court in Košice (Štúrova 29, 041 51) apostilles documents of district courts, notaries and bailiffs in its district, certified copies, authenticated signatures, and also official translations and expert opinions. The Košice District Office client centre (Komenského 52, 040 01) apostilles civil-registry documents – birth, marriage and death certificates.

Education documents are the exception: you cannot handle them in Košice, because their apostille is issued centrally by the education ministry in Bratislava, and a Košice applicant files exactly as anyone else in Slovakia. Send us a scan of the document – we tell you exactly which of these authorities it belongs to and what the filing needs.

Apostille and sworn translation in the right order – even without a trip to the city

The golden rule: apostille the original first, then order the sworn translation, so the translator translates the document including the apostille clause. In the reverse order the destination authority may reject the translation because the apostille is missing from it. We keep the whole order straight for you – we check the destination institution’s requirements, arrange the apostille, and the document is translated by a sworn translator from the Ministry of Justice register.

Since we do not have a Košice office yet, you run the whole process online: email the scans and we deliver the finished sworn translation by post across eastern Slovakia or as an electronic sworn translation with a qualified signature.

Ukrainian documents: apostille directly in Ukraine

A Ukrainian document needs an apostille from a Ukrainian authority – a Slovak authority cannot issue it, so you will not arrange it in Košice or anywhere else in Slovakia. With our own offices at both ends of the route, we file for it directly with the Ukrainian ministries through our Kharkiv and Kyiv offices and then provide the sworn Slovak translation.

You never mail originals across the border and you travel nowhere. For documents from other countries we advise whether an apostille, superlegalisation or a simplified treaty-based regime applies.

FAQ

Where in Košice do I get an apostille?

It depends on the document type: the Regional Court in Košice (Štúrova 29) apostilles court, notarial and expert documents and official translations, the Košice District Office (Komenského 52) civil-registry documents, and education documents are handled centrally in Bratislava. Send a scan – we tell you exactly where it belongs.

Will you arrange an apostille remotely if you have no Košice office?

Yes. Filing and delivery run online: you email the scans and we deliver the finished sworn translation by post across eastern Slovakia or electronically with a qualified signature. You travel nowhere.

How much does an apostille cost?

The administrative fee follows the competent authority’s tariff; our assistance is quoted by scope. An apostille on a Ukrainian document is arranged from €22 plus the state fee.

Apostille or superlegalisation?

The apostille applies between the states of the 1961 Hague Convention. Countries outside it require consular superlegalisation. We verify which regime applies to your country – sometimes a treaty means neither is needed.

Which comes first: translation or apostille?

Apostille the original first, then the sworn translation – the document is translated including the apostille clause. In the reverse order the authority may reject the translation. We keep the order straight for you.

Can you arrange an apostille on a Ukrainian document?

Yes – Ukrainian authorities issue it and we file directly through our Kharkiv and Kyiv offices. The document is then sworn-translated into Slovak. Your originals never leave your hands.
