How do sworn, notarised and court translation differ?
The short fork that most often makes people pay twice. A sworn translator is entered in the register of a particular country and answers for the text personally: it is their signature and register number in the stamp that make the translation official. A notarised translation works differently - the notary confirms the translator's signature but not the content, and for an EU authority that is usually not enough. The word "court" means one thing in one country and another elsewhere: in Czechia it is a synonym for sworn, in other places a translation ordered by a court.

Which countries require a sworn translation?
Sworn translation is required by countries that keep their own register of such translators: Poland (tłumacz przysięgły), Germany (vereidigter Übersetzer), Czechia (soudní překladatel), Spain (traductor jurado), France (traducteur assermenté), Italy (traduzione giurata), Slovakia (úradný preklad). Every bureau lists much the same countries; the difference is in how the work is actually done.
The main one: in some countries the translation must be made by a specialist accredited there, in others it is arranged through the embassy or consulate - different money and different timelines. We settle the scenario by country and document type before you pay, so that nothing has to be redone.

How do sworn, notarised and court translation differ?
A sworn translator answers for the text personally - signature plus a personal stamp carrying a register number. A notarised translation is certified by a notary, who confirms only the translator's signature, not the content. "Court translation" is a trap of a term: in Czechia it is a synonym for sworn, elsewhere it means a translation ordered by a court. We read your institution's requirement and produce the variant it names.
Which countries require a sworn translation?
