Certificate of availability of a driver's license

Contents

A certificate of driver's license ownership is a document required in various situations, including those outside of Ukraine. Confirming the validity of your driver's license, this document is relevant for numerous legal (administrative) procedures. Understanding its importance, Etalon Translation Agency offers professional assistance in obtaining and translating this certificate in Kharkiv, Kyiv and across Ukraine, ensuring the result meets all regulatory standards.

When is This Certificate Needed?

The need to obtain a certificate confirming the ownership of a driver's license arises in the following situations:

  • Obtaining an international driver's license: This document is required to verify your driving experience when applying for an international driver's license or exchanging a Slovak license for one from another country.
  • Employment abroad: If the job requires a valid driver's license, the certificate confirms its validity.
  • Renting a car abroad: When renting a vehicle, many rental services request this certificate to confirm your driving credentials.
  • Applying for a residence permit: The certificate is often necessary when submitting documents for a residence permit.
  • Obtaining international car insurance: In some cases, insurance companies require this document to issue a car insurance policy.
  • Registering a vehicle in another country: A certificate confirming your driver's license is mandatory when registering a car abroad.

Legalization of the Certificate of Driver's License Ownership

Legalizing a driver's license ownership certificate gives the document the required legal validity abroad. This can be done through several methods, including apostille and consular legalization. The apostille is a simplified option applicable in countries that have signed the Hague Convention. A special stamp is placed on the document to confirm its authenticity, allowing it to be used in Convention member countries without further legalization.

For countries that have not signed the Hague Convention, consular legalization is required. This process is more complex and involves several stages - verification by the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and finally, the consulate (embassy) of the destination country.

When are you open?

All three offices — Kharkiv, Kyiv and Bratislava — are open Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00. Each keeps its own local time, and Bratislava (Central European time) is an hour behind the two Ukrainian offices, so allow for that difference if you're calling from abroad.

Do I need to come to the office?

You don't need to visit us in person. Send scans of your documents by e-mail and we'll quote the price and turnaround; some services need the original, which then travels by courier or post instead of you. We return the finished document the same way — by post, or as a signed electronic file where the receiving authority accepts it.

Can I get the translation the same day?

It depends on which office handles your order. In Kharkiv and Kyiv a standard document can often be ready the same day if you send the scan early and choose the express option, which may cost extra — we confirm this when we quote. In Slovakia the timings are different: a sworn translation of a standard document usually takes up to 2–3 working days, express by arrangement, and what you receive the same day there is the quote rather than the finished translation. Larger or more complex jobs, and services that involve a state authority, take longer in either country.
