Apostille in Lviv – online and turnkey, no trip to Kyiv

An apostille certifies a Ukrainian document for use abroad – the stamp is recognised by 120+ Hague Convention countries. Since 1 February 2026, Ministry-of-Justice-category documents – civil-registry certificates, notarial and court papers – are apostilled without a trip to Kyiv: online via the Diia app or in person in Lviv, including at the Lviv Interregional Justice Department at 1 Shashkevycha Sq.

The state fee is 670 UAH for individuals, the standard timeline up to 3 business days. Education documents (Ministry of Education), police-clearance certificates (Ministry of Internal Affairs) and medical certificates (MFA) still go through Kyiv – Etalon files those for you, fully remotely.

  • Since February 2026: civil-registry and notarial documents apostilled via Diia or in Lviv – 670 UAH fee, up to 3 business days
  • Interior-Ministry, Education and MFA documents filed in Kyiv on your behalf – no travel from Lviv
  • Full cycle: apostille + translation (including sworn Polish) + notarisation
  • Lviv is served online: free scan assessment by messenger, the finished set delivered by Nova Poshta to your branch

Since February 2026 Lviv no longer depends on Kyiv for civil-registry and notarial apostilles – they are accepted at 1 Shashkevycha Sq., at any DRACS office and via Diia; everything that remains Kyiv-side (Interior, Education, MFA) Etalon files for you remotely.

The February 2026 reform: apostille without Kyiv

Until the reform, Justice-category apostilles were processed centrally, so documents from Lviv effectively travelled to Kyiv. Since 1 February 2026 (Ministry of Justice order No. 3177/5), applications are accepted online via Diia or in person at any civil-registry (DRACS) office, notary or state archive – regardless of where the document was issued. Lviv also has its own justice intake point: the Lviv Interregional Justice Department at 1 Shashkevycha Sq.

The state fee from 1 January 2026 is 670 UAH for individuals and 1160 UAH for legal entities. The standard timeline is up to 3 business days, extendable to one month if signature or registry verification is required.

Which ministry apostilles which documents

The Ministry of Justice covers civil-registry certificates (birth, marriage, divorce, death), notarial copies, powers of attorney and court rulings – the category now served in Lviv and via Diia.

The Ministry of Education apostilles diplomas, transcripts and school certificates – a separate, slower procedure handled through Kyiv. For Lviv that mostly means diplomas of Ivan Franko National University and Lviv Polytechnic – the city’s two most popular universities: foreign employers and admission offices ask for them with the Education-Ministry apostille, and we run that Kyiv filing for you. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has apostilled its own police-clearance certificates since 2023: in-person filing is Kyiv-only, but the certificate can be ordered together with the apostille fully online via Diia, delivered by Ukrposhta. The MFA covers medical and some other certificates. No guesswork on your side: the destination country and document type tell us exactly where the document has to go.

Remotely via Etalon or in person in Lviv

If you have a single civil-registry certificate and no deadline pressure, you can file it yourself – via Diia or at the nearest DRACS office. We say so honestly.

Etalon is worth it when the case is more complex: documents for several authorities at once, a certified or sworn translation required, an apostille needed on a notarised copy or on the translation, or tight deadlines. The finished set comes back to any Nova Poshta branch or parcel locker in Lviv, and documents reach us just as remotely – scans by messenger, originals by post. Etalon has no office of its own in Lviv, and we say so plainly.

Apostille + translation: the Poland corridor

The most common route from Lviv is Poland – work, study, residence. Polish institutions usually require a sworn (przysięgły) translation of the already-apostilled document, so the order matters: apostille first, then translation. The full Poland guide – document checklists per purpose – lives on our separate "Documents for Poland from Lviv" page; this page covers the apostille itself.

For other Hague Convention countries the logic is the same, only the translation requirements differ. Non-convention countries need consular legalisation – a separate multi-step procedure.

FAQ

Where can I get an apostille in Lviv?

Justice-category documents (civil-registry, notarial, court) have been accepted in Lviv since February 2026: at the Lviv Interregional Justice Department (1 Shashkevycha Sq.), at any DRACS office, at a notary – or online via Diia. Education documents, police-clearance and medical certificates are apostilled through Kyiv authorities – Etalon files them for you.

Can I get an apostille via the Diia app?

Yes. Since 1 February 2026, Justice-category documents are apostilled online via Diia. The police-clearance certificate is a separate Diia service: it is ordered together with the Interior-Ministry apostille and delivered by Ukrposhta.

How much does an apostille cost in Lviv in 2026?

The state fee is 670 UAH for individuals and 1160 UAH for legal entities (Justice category, from 01.01.2026); the Interior-Ministry apostille on a police-clearance certificate costs 51 UAH. The bureau service is from UAH 950 per document; translation and notarisation are charged separately.

How long does an apostille take?

Justice-category documents – up to 3 business days, extendable to one month if signature or registry verification is needed. Education documents take longer, depending on the year of issue and document type.

What comes first – the apostille or the translation?

Usually the apostille goes on the original first, then the apostilled document is translated – for Poland typically by a sworn (przysięgły) translator. We do both steps in the correct order so the document is accepted the first time.
